Did you know Saskatchewan ranks among the provinces with the highest child poverty rates in Canada? According to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (2023), one in five children in Saskatchewan lives in poverty—a sobering statistic that places the province just ahead of Manitoba and the Yukon.
Even more concerning, 55,000 children in Saskatchewan are living below the poverty line, and our provincial income security programs are among the lowest in the country.
While there’s no precise data on how many Saskatoon children head to school without lunch each day, stories from educators and school staff paint a troubling picture. The reality is that hunger affects more children than many of us realize.

Meals That Matters
Llama Lunch is a lunch delivery service that provides nutritious, delicious, and convenient boxed lunches and snacks for schoolchildren. By taking the stress out of lunch prep, we help parents save time and ensure their kids enjoy balanced meals during their school day.
Llama Lunch’s Sponsor Meals program makes it easy to donate a school lunchto a child in need. You’re able to make a one time donation or a recurring monthly sponsorship, you also have the option to choose which project or organization you want your dollars to contribute to.We will provide a monthly newsletter that will share all of the groups and events we were able to give to as well as a count of how many children have received meals due to the support of our sponsors.
